Beaders will thank Lacis Publications for bringing us the English text
version of Takako Sakos wonderful book on loom weaving with beads. The book
offers a treasure trove of elegant, understated, and very wearable pieces easily
executed even by a beginning beader. Delightful and appealing, some 50 projects
for bow ties, pendant and larger purses, pins, necklaces, bracelets, earrings,
and hair ornaments are included many in delicate, floral patterns and subtle
monochrome color palettes.
Throughout the book, the photography is impeccable. With graceful Japanese
style, both the color and textures used in the photographs of the samples complement
the pieces and show them to their best advantage, a bonus in suggesting ways to
display finished beadwork. In the how-to section, each exceptionally clear photograph
takes the reader through the necessary steps toward completion.
The book is printed on good-quality, non-reflective paper which reduces glare
and makes reading easy on the eyes. However, because the book is perfect bound,
it does not lay open as well as comb or spiral binding so using the book
is a little more difficult. Connie Prener is to be commended for her clear, concise
translation of the instructions, which makes following them and doing the projects
a breeze. Beaders wont be able to leave this book on the shelf!
